This series of paintings is inspired by traditional Japanese Haïku poems consisting of three phrases in a 5 – 7 – 5 morae pattern.

Many of you know that I often play Arvo Pärt’s minimalistic music at the end of my recitals, as I enjoy razing everything down to the very essence.

The simplicity and shortness of the Haïkus gives each mora (the smallest unit of phonetic timing) the uttermost importance. In this spirit, each mora in my painted haïkus comes to life and becomes a little living being.
